there is significantly more than a scintilla of exuberance on cosmin trg’s first 2016 venture on his own fizic imprint. number four in the series further explores the dense textures present on last year siiiep, but largely dispenses with the ennui in favour of a different discourse. oblic offers a brisk groove that ebbs and flows among graphite-thin layers of percussion and sonic debris. the recurring dust sample amplifies the vigorous rhythmic attributes of the track, rendering it withprime dance floor capabilities. serpenti takes distant sparkles of mutant chimes, wraps them around the relentless pulse of thudding kick drum and soaks everything in static. granules and grit are extracted from circuitry with a focus on razor sharp sound system efficiency. produced by cosmin trg, transformed by matt colton at alchemy mastering, with original artwork from cosmin himself.

new york haunted have invited some of our own favorite artists to explore the boundaries of techno as a form of communication. straight from detroit, the legendary terrence dixon represents the minimalist funk like no other in his contribution star dust. straightforward dance floor action with a truly hypnotic vibe. former yellow swan, pete swanson comes from a noise background and has been adding monolithic rhythms for some years now, his dirty work blurs these lines and shifts between harsh noise and distorted machine rhythms. cryptic techno philosopher jamal moss, aka hieroglyphic being drops an exercise in sun ra worship called speaking in tongues and label boss drvg cvltvre rounds of the ep with a combination of shortwave radio transmissions and walls of gutwrenching bass drums. often imitated, never duplicated. these are the unique voices of a techno generation.

if you ve followed local talk thru the years you ve most likely noticed how we like to throw a few curve-balls every now and then. for our 65th release we ve got gomma boss mathias modica aka munk and ndatl head honcho kai alce sharing the black gold. two producers with their own unique style presenting something special. while munk s original version of hot medusa is a shimmering and warm head-nodding & toe-tapping jam, the remix by mr alce is deep, soulful and musically rich house. two very different takes on one track, take your pick. on the flip munk delivers purple dust. this time he s upped the tempo a few bpm s, accompanied by a deep bassline with lush melodic synths and chords. mr alce ends the 12- with a dub of hot medusa which is brilliant from start to finish. another highly recommended and essential release.

there are also more frosty cuts that sound like a chilly autumn walk, tracks that feature emotive neo-classical piano pieces and suggestively rhythmic compositions that sooth your mind. the second half of the record touches on church like passages of synth heavy sounds, strikingly sad violins and lo-fi arrangements that sound, one hopes, a little like what you might hear as you pass from this life to the next.

the art of omission is a craft new jersey native joey anderson masters like few others. after releasing his acclaimed debut album after forever in 2014 and the 1974 ep earlier this year, anderson returns to the dekmantel label serving up the signature sound we love him for. invisible switch is the perfect example of what anderson can do with very little, catapulting him to one of the finest and most original techno and house producers to date.

american label beyond the speaker made an impression with their first release angels against dust two years ago, a tasty 12inch split between legowelt & willie burns. for the latest outing, canadian mastermind michael silver aka cfcf (rvng, ghostly, 1080p) celebrates the soul and grooves of house, electro, and techno. three tracks that balance dancefloor hustle, intricate detail and flourishing melodies. lead track head up is a poignant call to the dancefloor, a peak hour house cut with an emergent vocal sample that rallies all for a blissful groove excursion. the b-side is a moodier affair, with mossy wall submerging the listener with potent rhythms as ominous bass intersects with a waking metropolis of melody. and the classic techno sound of sea of love deftly lulls us with gentle vocals and a looping guitar phrase.

herva is the artist name of hervè atsè corti. he lives in relative seclusion from the dance music world in the italian countryside around florence and is one of the most intriguing producers to work in house and techno for a while. his early musical life as a drummer, plus his extra-musical interests in engineering and electronics has informed a unique, freeform, and very tactile approach to dance music. its house and techno that doesnt adhere to the usual influences of detroit, chicago or berlin.
